Short Biography

  • I earned my undergraduate and graduate degrees in sociology from the University of Dhaka in Bangladesh. In my master's thesis, I looked into neoliberal policies in Bangladesh and how they deterred the city's poor from exercising their right to the city. During my undergrad, I also investigated the accumulation and dispossession processes of real estate housing companies in Bangladesh using David Harvey's theoretical lens. My research interests, however, span a wide range of sociological domains, including political sociology, urban sociology, social movements, critical Muslim studies, and public health. I have already supervised four masters and fifty undergraduate students in various fields of sociology. In addition, I've received a total of $45,000 USD in research grants from various government and non-governmental organizations in Bangladesh. My current research project aims to develop an evidence-based e-health intervention for transgender women in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Besides, I am a reviewer of some journals e.g. Sage Open, Frontiers in Public Mental Health, The Social Science Journal, and the International Journal of Health Planning and Management.
